The month is off to a great start, thanks to the guests for the first half-week! In case you missed it, here’s what happened in the first few days:
- Renay from Lady Business discussed working for ongoing representation and requested comments containing lists of five women. She also mentioned that the list of recommended SFF books by women she began in 2013 has been updated with the entries from 2014. It now has over 1,000 individual books, many of which have been recommended by multiple people, but we’d like to add even more recommendations to the list this year.
- Rachel Hartman, the New York Times bestselling author of Seraphina, shared her process for developing a gender system in the recently-released second novel about Seraphina, Shadow Scale.
- Genevieve Valentine, the award-winning author of the novels Mechanique, The Girls at the Kingfisher Club, and Persona as well as a variety of shorter fiction, nonfiction, and reviews, wrote about the influence Ursula Le Guin’s classic science fiction novel The Left Hand of Darkness had on her, especially her early interest in diplomatic fiction.
- I announced a Winner’s Choice Giveaway. The winner can select one book from the following: The Silvered by Tanya Huff, A Taste of Blood Wine by Freda Warrington, Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale, Warchild by Karin Lowachee, Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor, My Soul to Keep by Tananarive Due, Wraeththu (omnibus) by Storm Constantine, Primary Inversion by Catherine Asaro, or Generation V by M. L. Brennan.
