This week I got two cheap bargain books off Amazon. One’s for me and one is for my husband. As of when I’m writing this, there are still a few copies available as bargain books. The Soul Mirror by Carol Berg This is the second book in Carol Berg’s latest trilogy, Collegia Magica. The first book is The Spirit Lens, and the third book entitled The Daemon Prism just came out last month. In spite of having bought it right […]
Tor.com has an excerpt from The Sea Thy Mistress, the conclusion to Elizabeth Bear’s Edda of Burdens trilogy. I’m reading this right now and I am enjoying it immensely so far. The books in this trilogy are so beautifully written and I love all the Norse mythology. Sadly, Sarah Monette’s cat recently passed away. On February 2, she is holding a memorial fundraiser and the proceeds are going to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s Animal Companion Fund. […]
Eek, it’s been a whole week and the last one of these was the last post I wrote. I was hoping to get at least one of those reviews written in the last week but hopefully I’ll get one written up before this weekend is over instead (most likely The Book of Jhereg, although I also need to write reviews of Twilight of Avalon and The Illustrated Guide to Mythical Creatures). Meanwhile, I’ve been reading the massive omnibus Miles Errant […]
Breath and Boneby Carol Berg464pp (Paperback)My Rating: 9/10Amazon Rating: 4.5/5LibraryThing Rating: 4.61/5Good Reads Rating: 4.33/5 Breath and Bone is the second half of Carol Berg’s latest set of books, The Lighthouse Duology. It picks up where its predecessor leaves off, so it is necessary to read the first part Flesh and Spirit before attempting to read this book. This means that this review may contain some spoilers for Flesh and Spirit since it would be rather difficult to discuss even […]
On one of Carol Berg’s recent Amazon blog posts, she mentioned she was beginning to work on her next trilogy, an epic fantasy with the tentative name of The Sabrian Veil. She has begun writing some about her new story and the writing process on her new personal blog, Text Crumbs, which seems like it will be pretty interesting. I’ve always enjoyed reading her Amazon blog, so I look forward to reading more of her new blog as well. I […]
Recently, I read the newest book by Carol Berg, one of my favorite authors and a very underrated one, at that. Flesh and Spirit is the first book in the Lighthouse Duology. Fortunately, the second book Breath and Bone is already completed and is supposed to be out in January 2008 so there is not a long wait for the closing volume. Valen, our hero – er, anti-hero – is a Pureblood, a sorcerer whose life is controlled by the […]
